GREAT NEWS FLASH: Judge stops federal funding of embryonic stem cell research
A U.S. district judge granted a preliminary injunction Monday to stop federal funding of embryonic stem cell research that he said destroys embryos, ruling it went against the will of Congress.
The ruling by Judge Royce C. Lamberth was a blow to the Obama administration, which last year issued guidelines to allow federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
Lamberth’s ruling said all embryonic stem cell research involves destroying embryos, which violates the Dickey-Wicker Amendment included in federal spending bills.
“The Dickey-Wicker Amendment unambiguously prohibits the use of federal funds for all research in which a human embryo is destroyed,” Lamberth’s ruling said. “It is not limited to prohibit federal funding of only the ‘piece of research’ in which an embryo is destroyed. Thus, if ESC [embryonic stem cell] research is research in which an embryo is destroyed, the guidelines, by funding ESC research, violate the Dickey-Wicker Amendment."The Justice Department was reviewing the decision, spokesperson Tracy Schmaler said.

GREAT NEWS FLASH: AP Surprises With Article Noting Adult Stem Cell Research Outpacing Embryonic
The Associated Press surprised readers with a new story on the contrasts between adult and embryonic stem cell research and a headline indicating what pro-life advocates have long known: the use of adult stem cell research is helping patients now and far outpacing embryonic studies.
“For all the emotional debate that began about a decade ago on allowing the use of embryonic stem cells, it’s adult stem cells that are in human testing today. An extensive review of stem cell projects and interviews with two dozen experts reveal a wide range of potential treatments,” AP admitted.
A few of the examples highlighted include multiple sclerosis, heart damage, juvenile diabetes, and blindness from chemical burns.
“Apart from these efforts, transplants of adult stem cells have become a standard lifesaving therapy for perhaps hundreds of thousands of people with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood diseases,” AP noted.
Dr. David Scadden of Harvard told the news service that the ability of adult stem cells to help patients with a wide range of diseases and conditions helps it stand out from embryonic, which has never helped a single person.

Today Tennessee Right to Life goes to Court.  We will stand alongside a courageous teenager who is fighting for the life of her unborn child.

“Teresa” will face a juvenile court judge and explain again that she does not want to abort her 16 week old unborn child-despite her mother’s pressure, anger and violence which led to Teresa’s desperate escape and her mother’s subsequent filing of a warrant for her ‘runaway’ daughter.

Your quick donation of just $20 will help Tennessee Right to Life to continue helping Teresa and others like her who call our offices desperate for assistance and support.

Thanks to your efforts, the Tennessee General Assembly passed a pro-life bill last session making clear that Coercion is Criminal in Tennessee.

That’s why Teresa’s mother has scheduled a two-day, second trimester abortion for her in Louisville, Kentucky where, she told the juvenile judge in a hearing last week, “it’s not illegal to force her” to abort.

After Teresa’s call asking for our help, Tennessee Right to Life immediately coordinated legal support for her and safe shelter until a longer term solution can be developed and approved by the Court.

Tennessee Right to Life continues to stand beside Teresa even as her own mother threatens to ‘beat that baby out of her’ if she doesn’t go through with the planned abortion.
The case of this one young girl is just a small part of the work made possible by your a quick donation of $250, $100, $50, or even $25 right now!

One click will help insure that Tennessee Right to Life can continue to reach out to women and families facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies. Our commitment is broadly focused: to affirm and defend the dignity of life in our communities, at the Legislature, in Congress and in churches, classrooms and courtrooms across the state.

Young women like Teresa deserve proven advocates and the practical assistance they need to choose life. Will you help?

As Tennessee Right to Life walks into the courtroom today to support Teresa and her unborn child, we will not be alone. Your donation will demonstrate yet again that pro-life Tennesseans stand alongside her, too, and alongside every other Tennessean at risk of losing her rights, her child or her life.

I’m hoping we can count on you today.  And if you can’t make a quick donation online, just print out this e-mail and send it back to us!

Thank you in advance,

Brian Harris
President
Tennessee Right to Life

‘Do Hard Things’ tour comes to Two Rivers

Ashley Jones recently decided to do the “hard thing."The 16-year-old Gallatin home-schooler had long supported the pro-life movement without understanding the meaning of her stance. She did some research, which motivated her to go beyond her family’s, friends’ and even her own expectations.
The high school junior is now working with locals to open a crisis pregnancy center in Macon County.
“I said I was pro-life, but I needed to know what that meant,” she said.
“God has placed people in my life to work on this. We’ve put on a drama presentation to raise funds. I’m motivated to help the cause.”
Ashley is an unlikely rebel. She’s one of 1,500 young people who attended “The Rebelution’s Do Hard Things Tour” on Saturday at Two Rivers Baptist Church. The event is based on a top-selling Christian book, Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations, written by Oregon twins Alex and Brett Harris.

Your National Right to Life Committee has been hard at work putting the spotlight on the Obama administration’s sneaky tactics to quietly advance its abortion-expanding agenda.
We won’t be fooled by phony assurances from President Obama or his pro-abortion allies in Congress.  Unless Congress repeals the health care law or performs major corrective surgery on it, there will be years of battles over how elective abortion will be covered.
With your generous support, we will be able to keep the pressure on this pro-abortion administration and the legislators who voted for this gravely flawed bill.
The public must be made aware that there is no language in the new health care law, and no language in Obama’s politically contrived executive order, that effectively prevents federal subsidies for abortion on demand!
We will not be scammed.  When a federal program pays for abortions, that is federal funding of abortion. Period.
Please send your donation today and help send a message!
